All you need to do is to capture the capital (if you're in an era that has a capital) and you'll be able to crown him as Emperor!īy the way, did you know that the Romans tended to deify their emperors? Just an interesting fact. Combat oriented leaders should level up too and get feats and such. I just find it quite boring the only way your leaders get "Stronger" is by casting more spells. Originally posted by Arvay5:Baron sounds like the class I'd want to play then, also mods to add upgrading/improvement in other forms to structures and such around the map will come in time. I can comfortably complete a good sized CoE match in a few hours over the course of a couple evenings, not something I can do with a Dominions MP game. CoE is a simpler game, but in a lot of ways that's kind of a good thing. It's the 'less popular' of Illwinter's franchises and doesn't have as big of a multiplayer community so you don't have youtubers like Lucid Tactics doing 60+ hour video series where they dive into the minutia of a long and complex multiplayer game. Every single class plays in fundamentally different ways and half the fun is bumbling around in the dark to try and figure out how to actually make a faction work. There is a lot there, you just need to take the time to find it. Ultimately I think part of your issue stems from the fact that a lot of what is possible in CoE is not as well documented as it is in Dominions. Some classes like the Demonologist don't upgrade anything at all just relying on villages to provide snackrifices for hungry demons. A class like the High Priestess does the opposite, burning villages to the ground in order to feed Anikites. The Kobold king can upgrade mines in order to industrialize the Kobold breeding process and even summon dragon defenders for them. A class like the Baron can add immobile levy soldiers to defend tiles, as well as upgrading hamlets into little hill forts that provide increased income, defences and better freespawn units. Mages can also learn more combat spells by visiting a library.Īs for building up settlements it varies depending on the class you are playing. Each casting of any of the Ritual of Master spells will unlock more ritual spells for him to cast. If you see a unit like the Demonologist you'll notice he has several Ritual of Mastery abilities and if you perform the greater ritual of mastery he'll advance to become a 3rd level caster. Regarding unit advancement, Some of your hero units can advance in power. Other than forts, libraries and temples it's not like Dominions has much of a 'citybuilder' aspect to it either so I'm rather perplexed as to what your argument actually is. You can't customize commanders in Dominions either unless you are referring to the pretender gods, but if you want that, then just play Dominions. It's not that it's better or worse than Dominions, just different. CoE, like Dominions is an iteration of the previous versions and the basic structure of the game is pretty well set in stone. Not sure what you mean by 'rough shape' or 'content more interesting'. Needs updates and mods to make the content more interesting and add actual player customization like Dominions did Originally posted by Arvay5:Yeah, from what I've seen it has potential but is in very rough shape right now.
